Honors Program Requirements
University Honors
The University Honors Program accepts first-year students and offers an enriched college experience from the core curriculum through graduation. Graduates from this program must complete a total of 18 hours of honors credit, and meet the requirements for academics and service. A complete list of the requirements are listed in the Honors Program Handbook.
Students participating in the University Honors Program will take the following course sequence:
First Semester freshmen: HIST 1111 H (Survey of Premodern World History) (Area E of Core)
Second Semester freshmen: CRIT 1101 H (Critical Thinking) (Area B of Core)
First Semester sophomores: HUMN 4800 H (Seminar in the
Humanities)
Second Semester sophomores: PHIL 2201 H (Introduction to World
Philosophy)(Area C of Core)
Students participating in the University Honors Program must take these four courses in this sequence. The courses will focus on reading, discussing, and closely analyzing texts. These courses will provide a solid grounding in the liberal arts and teach important research skills. In addition, Honors students will work through these courses as a cohort, an important way to build an intellectual community on campus.
During the Junior and Senior years, students participating in the University Honors Program will need to amass six more honors credit hours.
School of College Honors
The School or College Honors Programs accept students during their junior year and offer an enriched education as students complete the courses for their major. Graduates from this program must complete a total of 9 hours of honors credit, and meet the requirements for academics and service. A complete list of the requirements are listed in the Honors Program Handbook.
Students participating in the School or College Honors Programs must take either CRIT 1101 H or HUMN 4800 H during their first year in the program. They must also amass six more honors credit hours before graduation in order to fulfill the academic requirements of the program.
